Henrick & Carolina — A Rainy August Wedding at Devoldfabrikken, Ålesund
Some love stories don't need perfect weather — they just need the right light, the right place, and two people who are completely, undeniably meant for each other. Henrick and Carolina gave us all of that, and more, on a rainy August day on the western coast of Norway.
The Venue: Devoldfabrikken, Langevåg
Tucked in the small coastal village of Langevåg, just a seven-minute boat ride from Ålesund, Devoldfabrikken is one of those rare places that seems to hold its breath when something beautiful is about to happen. What began in 1853 as Ole Andreas Devold's textile factory — one of Norway's great industrial stories — has been lovingly transformed into a cultural and creative hub, where original brick walls, worn wooden floors, and old factory bones tell a story that no modern venue ever could.
There is something about this place that feels alive with memory. The fjord stretches out beyond the quay. The mountains rise quietly in the distance. The old buildings, with their rustic interiors and carefully preserved details, wrap around you like a story you want to stay inside a little longer. It is the kind of venue that doesn't need decoration — it is the decoration.
For a wedding, it is nothing short of magical.
Rain, Mist & the Most Romantic Light
August in Ålesund doesn't always promise sunshine, and on the day Henrick and Carolina said their vows, the rain came soft and steady. But here is what I have learned after years of photographing weddings along the Norwegian coast: rain doesn't ruin a wedding. Rain reveals one.
The wet cobblestones caught the light and turned the factory grounds into a mirror of silver and grey. The mist rolled in off the fjord, softening everything — the old stone walls, the mountains beyond, the couple standing close together under an umbrella that neither of them seemed to mind sharing. The overcast sky became the most flattering light source imaginable: even, gentle, impossibly romantic.
Carolina's dress glowed against the dark, rain-slicked textures of Devoldfabrikken's historic walls. Henrick couldn't take his eyes off her. The rain gave us intimacy — the two of them, closer than they might have been on a bright sunny afternoon, laughing quietly, leaning in.
Henrick & Carolina
From the very first moment I met them, it was clear that Henrick and Carolina were a couple who didn't need a grand stage. They are warm, genuine, and completely at ease with one another — the kind of pair that makes every photograph feel effortless because the love is simply there, without any need for direction.
Watching them together on their wedding day — the quiet glances, the way Henrick held Carolina's hand a little tighter as they stepped out into the rain, Carolina's laugh when everything was just a little bit wonderfully imperfect — reminded me of why I do this work.
Their wedding at Devoldfabrikken was not just a celebration. It was a reflection of who they are: people who find beauty in honest moments, in history, in imperfection, in each other.
A Note from Behind the Lens
Getting to photograph and film weddings in places like Ålesund is an extraordinary privilege. Norway has a way of making emotion feel monumental — the scale of the landscape, the weight of the history, the drama of the weather. Henrick and Carolina's wedding was a reminder that the most powerful images are never about perfect conditions. They are about real moments, honestly captured.
To Henrick and Carolina — thank you for trusting me to be part of your day. It was an honour to witness your story, and an even greater honour to help you keep it.
